BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne University, in Brownwood, praised its 125th birthday this previous weekend.
The college was established in 1889 by Dr. John David Robnett. The college survived wars, social liberties developments and the Great Depression.
At the point when the school first started they had a huge adversary, Daniel Baker College, which wound up being ingested by Howard Payne University demonstrating exactly how much they have developed through the years.
“We’ve persisted as Dr. Taylor, who was the longest serving presidents said we will do whatever to keep the school going and we’ll do it on less and less on the off chance that we need to,” said University Historian, Dr. Robert Mangrum, “I credit him for holding the school together amid the sadness.
The school was named after Dr. Robnett’s brother by marriage, Howard Payne, who never had an opportunity to visit the University however did make an extensive gift to begin the school off. Dr. Robnett’s child, J.d. Robnett Jr. was the first to get a degree from the University.
