Delhi University students launch protest to highlight crippling rents

An area of Delhi University (DU) understudies have chosen not to pay their month to month rent unless they get receipts from proprietors.

The move came in the wake of developing protestations from understudies that numerous proprietors over the Capital request an extreme measure of cash.

The understudies on Sunday sorted out a ‘chai pe charcha’ project to examine the issue. They affirmed proprietors in the region of the college regions, including north campus, south campus and Ber Sarai, are requesting an extravagant measure of cash as rent from understudies.

The understudies have requested the execution of Delhi Rent Control Act 1995.

“There is no framework to check the climbing rents. An understudy is asked to pay a sum that is any- where between Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000 for a little one room with an imparted bathroom,” said Bhupinder, a part of the gathering.

On Sunday night, in excess of 300 understudies assembled to examine how best they can get the rent framework supported. They collectively concurred that the main way out is to get receipts so everybody will have evidence for what they are paying.

The students chose to quit paying rents from November, if their proprietors did not give receipts.

Praveen Kumar Singh, convener, Right to Accommodation, guaranteed the gathering has the backing of understudies living in Christian Colony, Vijay Nagar, Hudson Lane, Hakikat Nagar, Sant Nagar, Ghandhi Vihar, Nehru Vihar, Mukherji Nagar, Kamala Nagar, Munirka, Ber Sarai, Jia Sarai and Kalu Sarai.
