UN_Royal Agricultural University

Applications are now being sought for the new Farm Management Development Programme 2014/2015.
This new and unique course has been developed by working closely with key farmers from within the industry. The course is targeted at helping individuals establish the skills needed in a managerial role. Delegates will have the chance to share their experiences with like-minded people both in and out of the training room, and the programme is intended for those entering management or about to start running the family farm. The first course will be delivered in the North East of England and the Chadacre Agricultural Trust has kindly provided some sponsorship for eligible candidates.

The course will cover topics such as:
• Business Evaluation
• Marketing
• Business Planning
• Regulation & CAP Reform
• People Management
• Leadership
• Communication

Participants will also be awarded a Royal Agricultural University Accreditation once they have completed the programme.

Andrew Ward of Roy Ward (Farms) Ltd is one of the farmers who helped to develop the course. He said: “I took part in a training course delivered by the RAU two years ago. Attending the course has changed my life and my business. Agriculture is changing at an alarming rate and we have to be flexible and focussed to keep up. The Farm Management Development course will prepare you for that and help you in your early years of running a profitable farming business. I just wish this type of course had been available when I started running the family farm. I was delighted to be one of the farmers approached to help with the content and delivery, this is a farming course designed by farmers for farmers.”

Applications are invited from individuals based in the North East of England and the two week residential course takes place 24 – 28 November 2014 at the Lincolnshire Showground and in April 2015, dates and venue TBC.

The closing date for applications is 1 September 2014, and course numbers are limited to 12. Successful applicants will be invited for an interview at the Lincolnshire Showground 29 September 2014.
