Honorary Award for University of Derby Vice-Chancellor

College of Derby Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Coyne, is to get a Honorary Award from the University of Nottingham.

Teacher Coyne – who has been Derby’s Vice-Chancellor for ten years – moved on from the University of Nottingham in 1973 with an Industrial Economics degree and taught there for 15 years. While at Nottingham he helped to establish the Center for Management Buy-out and Private Equity Research, the first scholastic focus gave to the investigation of private value and purchase outs, and was superintendent of Cripps Hall.

Amid this current year’s University of Nottingham Awards Ceremonies (July 8-18), Professor Coyne will be granted the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa). He will get his honor on Thursday July 17.

Today Professor Coyne said: “I am totally pleased to be perceived along these lines by my place of graduation, the University of Nottingham. I used 20 brilliant years at the college as an understudy and after that scholastic, and that time was vital in fashioning character, scholarly fervor and a system of companions that proceed right up ’til today.

“I am especially struck by the way that my first Head of Department at the University of Nottingham, Professor Dennis Lees, was a Derby man, who concentrated on for his London outside degree at a school which is presently piece of my establishment. There’s a brilliant circularity about my now getting this Nottingham Honorary Award.”

Amid his time as Derby’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Coyne has headed the University to twofold in size, and expanded its profile broadly and territorially. In the not so distant future the University of Derby entered the ‘Main 50’ in The Guardian daily paper’s University League Tables.

Outside the University, he is a Commissioner to the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, a Director of CFE Research and Consultancy Ltd (a not-revenue driven organization giving exploration and assessment benefits in the instruction, vocation and aptitudes area), and serves on numerous nearby, national and territorial bodies.

Chris Hughes, University of Derby Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, included: “I am satisfied to see our Vice-Chancellor perceived and respected by the University of Nottingham.

“I know the amount love John holds for his previous college. I am certain his experience there was imperative in making the Vice-Chancellor we at Derby have the benefit of working with today”.
