Lecturer’s eerie film up for £41,000 international festival prize

Another film by an University of Derby Film and Media teacher is in the running for a £41,000 prize in a worldwide online celebration.

Kelly Holmes’ short film Dolls – a creepy, marginal forbidden, relationship between an adolescent sibling and sister set in a doll’s home in their Victorian den – has been acknowledged into the Viewster Online Film Festival, where web based gathering of people parts vote in favor of their most loved film.

The film’s chief of photography was Gavin Struthers, whose past credits incorporate Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Da Vinci’s Demons and the new privateer dramatization Black Sails.

It stars Anna Tolputt – who featured in Run, Fatboy, Run – and Derby performer Dean Whatton, who has showed up in the gigantically well known show arrangement Game of Thrones.

A board of judges will grant $70,000 (more than £41,000) of prize cash to the top film, $20,000 (more than £11,500) to the runner-up and $10,000 (very nearly £6,000) to the third-put finisher in the rankings.

The film was shot in the TV studio at the University’s Markeaton Street site in Derby, where a set was developed to resemble a Victorian den holding more than 100 porcelain dolls. Staff and understudies from the college served to make the complicated set and produce the last film.

Dolls has been demonstrating in universal film celebrations for as long as three months, incorporating in the USA , UK and Columbia.

Film executive Kelly, Senior Lecturer in Film and Media at the University, said: “This film has been quite a while really taking shape however I am excited it is presently getting distinguishment. The previous summer, Kelly went by Los Angeles to help make movies for Hollywood’s popular American Film Institute, where she acted as an Art Director and Assistant Director in areas, for example, the Disney Film Ranch and the sets of The Usual Suspects.
