From robots vs animals to bioluminescent bacteria, UWE Bristol experts will bring their passion and knowledge to this year’s Festival of Nature this weekend (14-15 June 2014).

On Friday 13 June school children visiting the UWE tent will learn about exercise health and energy, find out about how floods affect people’s lives and have a go at making bacteria glow.

Over the weekend (Saturday 14 – Sunday 15 June) the UWE tent in Millenium square will host a series of exciting and informative events, such as the way robots are mimicking the astonishing abilities of animals; and how robots can be powered with microbial cells that use Bristol Harbour water.

There will be a chance to learn more about our sense of smell, how plants fight bacterial pathogens and the special properties of Bristol’s miracle soil.

The UWE Hartpury stand will host Daisy the Cow, a life size milking simulator.

Over the weekend (14/15 June) a selection of films made by UWE’s Wildlife Film Making students and the Science Communications students will be on show, and UWE Illustration student Imogen Clowes will be creating a unique record of the festival through live drawing. She has beautifully documented the Bristol Food Connections festival and will be continuing her reportage drawing at the Festival of Nature.

UWE Animation students have made a short animated film for the Shark and Coral Conservation Trust which will be shown in their Tent in the Amphitheatre.
