2014 PhD Scholarship in Collective Properties of Biological Cells in Australia

Swinburne University is inviting applications for PhD scholarship in collective properties of biological cells. Swinburne University Postgraduate Research Awards offer a non-taxable indexed stipend of $25,392 per year and a tuition fee scholarship for up to three years for doctoral studies, with the possibility of a 6month extension. The application deadline is 30th May 2014.

About Scholarship: International students should apply for both an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) and a Swinburne University Postgraduate Research Award (SUPRA). Permanent residents of Australia may apply for an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA). Outstanding international and local candidates may also apply for the Swinburne Chancellor’s Research Scholarship (CRS).

PhD scholarship applications are welcome from suitably qualified graduates in physics, applied mathematics or engineering, to undertake cutting-edge research in the field of collective motility of biological cells, in the group of Dr. Federico Frascoli at Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne, Australia). The project will be in collaboration with A/Prof. Matthew Simpson of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), and will be focused on computational and analytical modeling of growth, diffusion and transport phenomena in biological cells. In particular, investigation of the role of individual forces in shaping macroscopic properties of collections of cells will be pursued. This is relevant for a variety of biologically fundamental contexts, such as wound healing and cancer development processes.
