MSU ranks among top 100 research universities

A survey recently released by the National Science Foundation ranked Mississippi State University as one of the top 100 research universities in the nation.

The NSF Higher Education Research and Development Survey placed the university as 92nd overall based on $233.2 million spent on research and development expenditures, which accounts for almost half of the total $476 million expenditures reported by all Mississippi institutions.

Nationally, MSU also placed in the top 50 for research and development expenditures in agricultural sciences, computer sciences, social sciences and humanities as well as in the electrical and mechanical subfields.

The university also holds the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching designation as a “Very High Research Activity University” and remains the only Mississippi institution with it.
