UK based University of Southampton’s Winchester School of Art (WSA) is now accepting applications for its new BA (Hons) Games Design & Art programme, starting in September 2014.

This three year, full-time undergraduate programme offered by one of the UK’s leading Art and Design Schools, will give you a thorough understanding of the factors shaping the games industry and the techniques and principles used to design games. Students will get the opportunity to design and prototype their own games and to analyse and consider games as a medium. By the end of the programme, students will have the skills sought after by the games industry and will be able to establish careers in areas such as games design, game production and game analysis.

Students can choose from a list of theoretical and career-focused modules to individually tailor the programme to suit their particular interests. Modules include Games in Culture, Games for Different Markets and Games for Good. Candidates will work in a creative games design and art environment, but also one in which students from other programmes will be studying. Candidates will work on games design and art projects and be taught by dedicated staff. The work they produce will be manifested through games design and art media and they will experience workshops specific to the programme.

Part one will give students the opportunity to engage with games practice, games production and extant issues in games design and art. In part two, candidates will study games design and art by way of games design and games development. A team of staff within the games studio will expertly guide all of their studies.

Students wishing to study BA (Hons) Games Design & Art need to make an application through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) (www.ucas.com) Applicants for this programme must meet Winchester School of Art’s English language entry requirements of an IELTS overall test score of 6.0, with at least 5.5 in each component (Or equivalent). The tuition fees for this programme are £14,440 per annum. Scholarships are available.
