Honduran university to start fashion design course in 2015

The Central American Technological University (UNITEC) in Honduras would be initiating the first ever bachelor’s degree in fashion design in the country from the 2015 academic year, with the aim of stimulating creativity and developing skills of young Hondurans who aspire a career in fashion.

The information of initiating the fashion design course at UNITEC from 2015 was announced during the recently held Colombiatex of the Americas 2014 fair, in the Colombian city of Medellin.

The fashion design courses have been developed by UNITEC following an agreement signed in October 2013 with Honduras Global founded by renowned Honduran fashion designer Carlos Campos.

The agreement was signed between the two entities with the aim of establishing an interagency alliance, which would help in creating programs and projects in the academic area, emphasizing on development of skills for entrepreneurship, technology transfer and innovation.

According to Mr. Campos, the initiative was taken up with the aim of providing proper training for young people considering a career in fashion, so that they were equipped with the skills to compete internationally.

The fashion design program at UNITEC is aimed at developing the skills of young Honduran designers, in order for them to compete globally, as well as contribute towards the growth of the Maquila industry of the country, which consists of textile and clothing manufacturing enterprises.
