Sharjah University slashes housing fees

University of Sharjah

Students living in the Sharjah University Hospital buildings are to have their housing fees reduced by almost half at the orders of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and chairman of the university.

he ruler told university administrators to reduce dormitory fees for all students – Emirati and expatriate – from Dh6,500 to Dh3,850 per semester.

The reduction was announced by Dr Humaid Bin Majoul Al Nuaimi, deputy director of for Academic Affairs at Sharjah University, during a call with the “Hotline” radio and television programme.

“The university rented four dormitory buildings from Sharjah University Hospital in order to accommodate the increased number of students in various specialisations and the increased demand for in-house accommodation,” he said.

Dr Al Nuaimi noted the previous dorm fees were used to cover the rent amount requested by the hospital’s administration. But Sheikh Al Qasimi decided to lower the fees to equal the rate that is already in effect at the university’s other dormitory buildings. (The National)
