The Asia Research Institute (ARI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is inviting applications for three types of research fellowships in 2014/15 academic year. Research fellowships/senior research fellowships for a total of a four-year and postdoctoral fellowships up to a total of a two-year will commence either in June/July 2014 or December 2014/January 2015. One-year visiting research Fellowships/senior research fellowships come with a monthly honorarium of S$2,250 and travel assistance, plus housing benefits. Support for research and fieldwork and conference attendance (on application and subject to approval) will be provided in all three fellowships.  

About Scholarship: Applications are invited for Research Fellowships/Senior Research Fellowships and Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Asia Research Institute (ARI) for commencement either in June/July 2014 or December 2014/January 2015. Applications for the One-Year Visiting Research Fellowships/Senior Research Fellowships are for commencement in April, July or October 2014.

All positions are intended for outstanding active researchers from around the world, to work on an important piece of research in the social sciences and humanities. Interdisciplinary interests are encouraged. Up to three months of a 12-month fellowship may be spent conducting fieldwork in the Asian region.

A majority of the positions will be allocated to ARI’s more specific areas of research focus. However, some will be given to outstanding projects in any area outside of those listed.  Applicants should mention which category they are applying to or if none, indicate the “open category”. Applications which link more than one field are also welcome. 

Study: A majority of the positions will be allocated to ARI’s more specific areas of research focus: Asian Migration, Asian Urbanisms, Changing Family in Asia, Cultural Studies in Asia, Religion and Globalization in Asian Contexts, Science, Technology, and Society, Metacluster: Historical Sociology of Asian Connections and Open Category (ARI also keeps its doors open to talented people with exciting ideas and worthwhile projects whose interests may not immediately fit one of the categories. Applications are welcome from across the whole spectrum of the humanities and social sciences, and especially for projects that are innovative and interdisciplinary). However, some will be given to outstanding projects in any area outside of those listed. Applicants should mention which category they are applying to or if none, indicate the “open category”. Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing research program at the Asia Research Institute (ARI).

-One-year Visiting Research Fellowships/Senior Research Fellowships: Interested applicants should have at least a PhD with a few years of postdoctoral research experience.

-Postdoctoral Fellowships: Candidates must have fulfilled all requirements of the PhD within the last 2 years. If you are still a PhD candidate at the point of application, you may also apply provided that you are confirmed for graduation by either June/July 2014 or December 2014/January 2015. A letter from your university will be required to confirm your graduation before your proposed start date. 

Scholarship Open for: Domestic and international students can apply for these fellowships.

Duration:
-Research Fellowships/Senior Research Fellowships: The appointment will be tenable for a period of two years at the first instance, with the possibility of extension for another term of two years (i.e. up to a total of a four-year term).

-One-year Visiting Research Fellowships/Senior Research Fellowships: The appointment will have a normative tenure of one year, though shorter periods may be negotiated.

-Postdoctoral Fellowships: Contract is tenable for a period of one year in the first instance with a possibility of extension to two years (i.e., up to a total of a two-year term). 

Value: -Research Fellowships/Senior Research Fellowships: The fellowship comes with a competitive remuneration and benefits package, depending on seniority. Support for research and fieldwork, and conference attendance (on application and subject to approval).

-One-year Visiting Research Fellowships/Senior Research Fellowships: This fellowship comes with a monthly honorarium of S$2,250 and travel assistance, plus housing benefits. Limited support for research and fieldwork, and conference attendance (on application and subject to approval).

-Postdoctoral Fellowships: An all-inclusive, fixed monthly salary of S$5,000 and a monthly housing allowance of S$500 will be provided (the latter is applicable to non-Singaporeans only). Support for research and fieldwork, and conference attendance (on application and subject to approval). 

Notification: Only successful candidates will be notified (via email). Candidates who do not hear from the University within 10 weeks after the closing date of the advertisement may assume the position has been filled.

2.Curriculum Vitae;
3.Synopsis of the proposed research project (no restriction on the number of pages);
4.At least one sample of published work;
5.Ensure that a minimum of three letters of reference are sent to us in confidence via email reporting on the applicant’s academic standing and on the applicant’s research project by 1 September 2013.
