2013-2014 Birmingham Business School Doctoral Scholarships in UK

Birmingham Business School of University of Birmingham, UK offers doctoral scholarships. Seven scholarships are offered. Six Scholarships are the equivalent of an ESRC studentship and cover home/EU fees (£4,000 p.a.)  plus a living allowance of £13,000 p.a. The seventh Scholarship is funded by the Midlands Excellence Organisational Improvement programme and covers home/EU fees and carries a living allowance of £15,000 p.a.

About Scholarship: The scholarships are available to candidates of the highest academic aptitude who wish to conduct doctoral level study on a topic within the remit of the Business School. Six Scholarships are the equivalent of an ESRC studentship and cover home/EU fees (£4,000 p.a.)  plus a living allowance of £13,000 p.a. The seventh Scholarship is funded by the Midlands Excellence Organisational Improvement programme and is specifically aimed at supporting research on the commoditisation of professional service industries and new business models. This studentship covers home/EU fees and carries a living allowance of £15,000 p.a.

Study: Study on a topic within the remit of the Business School

Course Level: PhD degree level

Scholarship by: Birmingham Business School of University of Birmingham and Midlands Excellence Organisational Improvement programme.

Location: UK 

Eligibility: A successful applicant will typically have a very good undergraduate degree. They should have, or be in the process of completing, a Masters degree in a Business subject or Economics. Applications on topics in the field of Business and Management are also welcome from candidates with Masters Qualifications in the wider Social Sciences. Their references will attest to qualities of academic achievement and research potential that make the candidate stand out above their peers. They may have won prizes within their institution, or even international prizes. 

Scholarship Open for: The students of UK/EU (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden) can apply for these scholarships.

Selection Criteria: Applications will be assessed on the quality of the student’s academic achievements and preparedness for doctoral level study; the quality of the research proposal; its potential to contribute to cutting edge research; and the match of the proposal to areas of research strength within the School.

Apply: Potential candidates for the Birmingham Business School Doctoral Scholarships must have an offer of a place to study for a PhD. If you do not already have an offer, you must apply by July 5th noting in your electronic application that you are applying for a Birmingham Business School Scholarship or the Midlands Excellence Scholarship. At the same time, you should send a separate Birmingham Business School Scholarship application form, which can be downloaded, below, along with your research proposal, to Professor Helen Rainbird, Director of the Doctoral Programme ( h.rainbird-at-bham.ac.uk and mark your email ‘Birmingham Business School Scholarships’ or Midlands Excellence Scholarship’). If you already have a place to start the doctoral programme in September 2013 and are interested in being considered for these awards, please contact your supervisor to discuss the opportunity and submit a completed Scholarship application and your research proposal to Professor Rainbird, as explained above. If you are currently a Masters student, an offer of a Scholarship will be conditional on the successful completion of your studies.
