The University of Dubai announced plans for a new campus and programmes at its 11th graduation ceremony held at the Culture and Scientific Association Auditorium in Al Mamzar. Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the graduation ceremony of 181 students.
Majid Hamad Al Shamsi, chairman of the university’s board of trustees, was the main speaker at the ceremony. In his speech, Al Shamsi updated the students on the status of the new campus. The design of the new facility had been approved and construction is scheduled to begin later this year. The 3 million square foot facility located in International Academic City is scheduled to begin operating in 2015.
“The new campus of the University of Dubai will be ready by June 2015 and when ready it will be more than capable of meeting the requirements of the future and will be equal to the best and most modern academic establishments in the region, fitted with technologically advanced equipment so that students are provided with a rich learning experience,” he said.
Al Shamsi also announced that UD will offer a masters in Law (LLM) next year as part of its mission to provide the finest and most current courses. The new programme is unique for the region, concentrating legal matters of business, economy and finance. The university will also begin offering a PhD programme in Business Administration in 2014.
Out of the 181 students who graduated, 40 received their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees, the second batch of Master students to earn their MBA from UD since the program began in 2010. The remaining 141 students received their undergraduate degree in business administration or information systems security.
UD was established by the Dubai Chamber to provide the best learning environment for young people by using current market data and experienced faculty.
“I would like to give a final word to my graduates today,” Al Shamsi said. “The future is yours. Be the best ambassadors for your ambitions. You will face many obstacles throughout your future career, but do not let these impact your will. View every obstacle as an opportunity and learn from every opportunity given to you. Remember you are the future and with you, we are certain for a bright future for our country.”
