The awards were given following three days of competition as part of the International Harp Festival which took place at the Royal Welsh College over the weekend of 14th February.
Harpists came from around the globe to perform Impromptu for Harp (Faure, Gabriel) and Suite for Harp (Britten, Benjamin) in the College’s Dora Stoutzker Hall, competing for the £2000 prize, awarded to each winner. The prestigious jury included Maria Luisa Rayan-Forero, Karen Vaughan and Jana Bouskova.
The other winners were Elizabeth Bass, Jasmin-Isabel Kuhne, and Markus Thalheimer.
RWCMD Head of Harp, Caryl Thomas, commented on the lovely atmosphere during the festival, which included a Valentine’s Day recital from current and past royal harpists Hannah Stone and Catrin Finch, and performances from Maria Luisa Rayan-Forero, and Jana Bouskova, as well as masterclasses, talks, seminars, and an exhibition.
“The whole weekend exceeded my expectations, and our harp students really made the most of the unique opportunity of observing and learning from the wealth of artistry on their own doorstep throughout the festival.
It goes without saying that RWCMD was honoured to host the Lyon & Healy Awards, and delighted for the four winners, especially for our own student, Llywelyn . I’d like to thank everyone who came, whether it was to play, to exhibit, to compete or simply to enjoy the recitals and workshops, as it was the support of all the wonderful harpists that made it such a success. “
