About Scholarship: AWERA, the Australian Water and Environment Research Alliance were established to facilitate and support collaboration between Griffith University and the University of Queensland. PhD Candidates who are co-supervised by an academic from Griffith University and the University of Queensland may be eligible to apply for this top-up scholarship. AWERA has a proven track record in specialist environmental research across several fields applied to themes including; Ecosystem Services, Sustainable Water Resources, Catchment Stressors and Management, Decision making tools and Coastal resilience and recovery. This expertise, spanning a diversity of disciplines, provides a broad spectrum of capacity to drive change based on high quality science.

Eligibility: Scholarships are for PhD students only. Applicants will need to meet the general requirements for admission into a PhD program at the University of Queensland or Griffith University and to be awarded an APA scholarship or a (merit based competitive scholarship – national or international). Applicants must address a topic related to an AWERA research theme and have sought and obtained agreement on their proposed project from potential AWERA supervisors. The scholarships are awarded to outstanding new PhD students and cover a living stipend top-up, and are available to both international and domestic students who meet all other eligibility criteria.
Selection Criteria: Selection criteria will be developed that ranks a candidate’s: Written response in alignment the proposed project to AWERA research themes; Relevance of the project to ongoing AWERA research activities; Track record; and Appropriate supervisors (one from each university) with evidence of research support for the project.
