About Scholarship: A Research Associate post is available in the Eggert group at the Randall Division of Cell and Molecular Biophysics, King’s College London. How cells regulate and execute cytokinesis, the final step of cell division, remain major unsolved questions in biology.
The goal of our laboratory is to use chemical biology approaches to address unanswered mechanistic questions by studying cytokinesis at the process, pathway and protein levels.This post will focus on investigating how membrane trafficking participates in cytokinesis and how cells transmit cues from the cellular environment to the cell division machinery. We recently reported a small molecule inhibitor of endocytic sorting and cytokinesis (Zhang et al., PNAS, 2012).
This small molecule, Prazosin, exerts its effects through a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR), the dopamine receptor 3. We have also shown that other GPCRs participate in cytokinesis. The goal of the postdoctoral researcher working on this project will be to use a combination of RNAi and small molecule treatments to dissect the role of membrane-based signal transduction during cytokinesis. This is an interdisciplinary project, in which different aspects will be emphasised according to the researcher’s experience and interest. It includes chemical biology, systems biology-based approaches to study GPCR signalling, biochemistry, and/or cell biology and imaging.
Cover: The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, within the Grade 6 scale, currently £31,020 to £33,884, per annum plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.
