Some 20 universities from the United States visited the Sultanate as part of the Linden University Fair. The fair was a unique opportunity for Omani students and parents to meet the representatives of the universities and colleges, considering that Oman ranks second in the GCC in terms of students going for education to the US.
W Johann Schmonsees, Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy said he was happy to see so many Omani students interested in pursuing graduate or undergraduate studies in the US.
“Not only do Omani students benefit from a first-class education, but also learn about American culture as they share their own culture and values with their American friends. It gives us an opportunity to show the face of US,- he said.
Sarah Jackson, Country Director of AMIDEAST Oman, said the objective of the fair is that students from both countries learn about each other’s culture. “Education is a great way to bring together both the countries,- she noted.
Around 600 students headed to the US in 2011 alone -” an increase of over 100 per cent since the announcement of HM’s scholarship programme in 2011.
The group of universities also visited The American International School of Muscat (TAISM).
Ryan Haynes, High School Counsellor, TAISM, said the Linden University Tour went extremely well.
“There was a good energetic vibe during the fair and the students seemed very engaged in their interactions with the university representatives. I was happy that students had the opportunity to speak with admission representatives from a variety of universities. It was also great to receive so much positive feedback from the representatives and tour leaders regarding how focused the students were in regards to their prospective majors. A number of students attended the fair, and we are pleased with the enthusiasm of the students,- he added.
Hundreds of students attended the opening of the “Linden US University- fair, said a statement from the US embassy. The Linden university fair was organised in cooperation with Linden Tours International, AMIDEAST Oman, and the US Embassy.
