Higher education professionals from around the world will meet at Europe’s largest international higher education conference in Dublin today to exchange ideas, learn from best practices and debate policies and the hottest topics in the field.
Conference highlights
Opening Plenary Keynote: Sugata Mitra
The EAIE is pleased to present Sugata Mitra, an education researcher who is internationally renowned for his efforts to close the digital divide. Sugata is best known for his “Hole in the Wall” project in 1999, in which he embedded an internet-connected PC within a wall bordering an urban slum in New Delhi and allowed children to freely use it. His experiment demonstrated that when motivated by curiosity and peer-knowledge, children have the ability to teach themselves without any direct intervention. His work inspired the book Slumdog Millionaire that went on to become the Oscar winning film of 2009.
Closing Plenary Keynote: Caroline Casey
Concluding this year’s conference, social entrepreneur Caroline Casey will deliver a speech at the Closing Plenary. Partnering with business and media to develop creative initiatives that promote the abilities of those with disabilities, Caroline is leading a new way of thinking about the relationship between society and disability. Founder of Kanchi and the O2 Ability Awards, Caroline has received numerous awards in recognition of her work worldwide.
