– South African citizens and permanent residents of South Africa who wish to complete an MSc or PhD degree at a South African university
– Non – South Africans from other countries in Africa who wish to complete an MSc or PhD degree at a South African university
– Non – South Africans from other countries in Africa who wish to complete an MSc or PhD degree at a university in a South African SKA Partner Country: Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Kenya and Ghana
– All PhD and MSc scholarship applicants MUST submit a research proposal. (This does not apply to students who wish to complete their MSc degree through the National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme – NASSP).

Scholarship Description: The objective of the National Research Foundation (NRF) is to support and promote research through funding, human capacity development and the provision of the necessary research facilities, in order to facilitate the creation of knowledge, innovation and development in all fields of the natural and social sciences, humanities and technology, including indigenous knowledge systems.SKA SA supports students who wish to pursue postgraduate research in radio astronomy or the fields of engineering appropriate to radio telescope.. A travel grant of up to R19 500-00 (nineteen thousand, five hundred rand) for PhD students, and R15 000-00 (fifteen thousand rand) for MSc students, per annum, may be paid for approved travel related to studies. The grant includes subsistence and accommodation. A motivation for travel must be provided at least two months before any trip is to be undertaken and a written report must be provided to the SKA SA via the National Research Foundation (NRF) two weeks after returning from the trip. It is compulsory for the student to travel at least once a year to a conference, another institution for research purposes etc. Travel grants cannot be carried over from one academic year to the next.
