UK: University of Portsmouth becomes CISI Centre of Excellence

Portsmouth University

The University of Portsmouth has signed an Agreement with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), which recognises the University as a CISI Centre of Excellence in finance teaching.

There has been an association between the CISI and the University of Portsmouth for several years but this agreement takes the relationship to a new and important level for both partners.

The Agreement allows the University to develop their undergraduate programme to incorporate CISI modules as well as recognising excellence at postgraduate level. University of Portsmouth finance students will be given student membership of the CISI when they enrol on a programme, allowing them access to a range of professional networking and career development opportunities.

Students will be offered the opportunity to complete professional qualifications such as the CISI Investment Advice Diploma, whilst studying, as well as exemptions from the CISI Diploma at postgraduate level

The partnership between a Chartered Institute and a higher education institution is seen as an excellent opportunity for students to bridge the gap between academia and the work place.

Ruth Martin, Managing Director of the CISI, said; “We are looking forward to working more closely with the University and developing new initiatives to further advance finance education. We recognise the University is a very significant provider of financial education. A professional qualification, undertaken as part of a challenging and high quality undergraduate programme, can ensure a student gains a competitive edge in the jobs market.”

Professor Gioia Pescetto, Dean of Portsmouth Business School, welcomed the signing of the agreement with the CISI. She said: “Being recognised as a centre of excellence underlines our on-going commitment to delivering courses and teaching that meet the high standards employers demand both in terms of knowledge and skills and in terms of ethics and integrity. We very much welcome this Agreement and look forward to working closely with the CISI on new and existing courses at all levels of study.”
