Ethiopia: Expansion Construction On Track in 9 Universities

Expansion construction is underway in new universities at a cost of 4.5 billion Birr, the Ministry of Education said.

Ministry New Universities Construction Project Office manager ,Takle GebreKidan told that the construction would enable nine new universities and Ambo University to raise the enrollment capacity. He said the ongoing first phase construction would enable the universities to enroll 32,000 from 7,000 currently.

The construction of 476 buildings is carried out in Metu, Welkite, Wachamo, DebreTabor, Adigrat, Woldiya, Asosa, Bulehora and Addis Ababa Science and Technology Universities. The construction of some 48 buildings has already finalized.

Speaking at the inauguration of six buildings in Metu University, Academic and Research vice President, Dr. Kitesa Chemeda said the construction of 10 buildings is underway and is expected to completed until the end of the coming June.

He said the university would enroll 2,500 from 300 at the present up on the completion of the buildings undertaken at a cost of 260 million Birr.
