A new survey of donations to colleges and universities shows 14 Connecticut schools received a combined total of more than $746 million last year.
Yale got three-quarters of the total. The nonprofit Council for Aid to Education’s annual review release found donations nationwide rose 8.2 percent in the 2011 budget year and exceeded $30 billion.
In Connecticut, Yale’s $580 million in gifts far surpassed other colleges. Rounding out the top five were the University of Connecticut with $38.6 million; Wesleyan with $36.5 million; Trinity with $24.7 million; and Fairfield with $16.2 million.
Other schools that received at least $5 million included Saint Joseph and Connecticut colleges, Quinnipiac, and the universities of New Haven and Hartford. Nationwide, Yale’s total was the third highest behind Stanford’s $709 million and Harvard’s $639 million.
