Top Chinese universities join hands in medicine research

Four top Chinese universities, including Peking University (PKU), National Taiwan University (NTU), the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and the University of Macau (UM), signed an agreement in Beijing on Feb. 13 to establish the Joint Research Centre for Chinese Innovative Medicines.

Through this center, the four universities will jointly apply for research funding in this regard, build a technological platform for the research and development of innovative medicines, promote scientific cooperation and academic exchanges among one another, and develop high-class innovative medicines and health products.

Ke Yang, PKU’s vice president and director of the Peking University Innovative Medicines Research Academy, said that the four universities will join hands in research of innovative medicines, and promote the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicines by jointly applying for research funding from home and abroad, building a technological platform for the research and development of innovative medicines, promoting scientific cooperation and academic exchanges among one another, and developing high-class innovative medicines and health products.

PKU’s President Zhou Qifeng, NTU’s President Si-chen Lee, HKU’s Vice Chancellor Lap-Chee Tsui, and UM’s President Zhao Wei signed the agreement on behalf of their universities.
