Some 337 of all 344 universities and junior colleges nationwide have reportedly decided to cut their tuition fees by an average of 4.2 percent this year.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said based on a survey of this year’s tuition fees among universities and colleges, it found the fees were reduced by 4.2 percent on average. It expects that government subsidies of W1.75 trillion and school scholarships of W346.7 billion will further reduce students’ burden.
Some 204 universities and colleges lowered fees by more than 5 percent, while 60 schools cut them by 3-5 percent and 73 by less than 3 percent.
The ministry said it will give preferential treatment to universities and colleges that actively cooperated with the ministry in reducing tuition fees this year, when it decides to give financial support to academic projects.
